Our new niece, Layla!!

I am so happy I can finally share the good news....Sara and Daniel adopted a baby girl! Layla Marie was born on May 18th weighign 8lbs 14 ounces ( even bigger than cousin Hattie) and Sara got to be in the room while she was delivered and also got to cut the embilical cord. Sara, Daniel and my mom were in Houston a the day before the birth mom was induced and then they stayed there a few days after Layla's birth. Once the papers were signed on Thursday we all took a deep breath of thanks and relief that this long journey of waiting and uncertaintity was over. We had kept this big secret for a few months. I completely understood why my sister did not want to tell alot of people, you never know what could happen. But in the end Layla went home with Sara and Daniel and had a whole bunch of people waiting for her big arrival. Marina was so excited to meet Layla. Everyone brought Marina presents so she was pretty excited!
Layla is such a sweet baby. I swear you don't even notice they have a newborn. She rarely cries and can sleep up to 5 hours without a bottle. Sara jokes that she is the complete opposite of Marina! She says from day 1 Marina came out being high maintance!! So true! I couldn't be happier for my sister that her family is complete now. We have been waiting for this day for a long time and it has been a rollercoaster of a journey!! But definetly worth it in the end!

What a sweetie!

then Hattie had to jump in : )

she was a little confused by the baby...she didn't understand why she couldnt just grab and hold her on her own
she was also pretty mad when mommy gave Layla a bottle and didn't give her one....must be so confusing for a one year old : )
Cooper's B-day Party!
On Saturday we took Hattie to her friend, Cooper's birthday party. It was gorgeous outside and Hattie really enjoyed playing outside. But I think she enjoyed the cake and icecream a little more!

didn't quite get the jumping thing- but she sure laughed when the big kids jumped around her

she stared at the man behind her the entire time

Today Hattie and I took my mom to the airport. She flew down with Hattie and me on May 2nd so she has been gone for over 3 weeks...we tried to talk her into staying another week to be here all of May, but she has lots to do back home. We will get to see everyone when we take a road trip to Colorado and South Dakota in July!

Counting Down the Days till Summer!!

It felt a little strange to not be traveling this past weekend. Actually, I haven't even unpacked my suitcase completely from my two trips. Maybe I will get to that next weekend! It was nice being home even though our weekend was still pretty busy. My mom and dad have been here all week. Friday night my parents, sister, nephew, Brent and Hattie came with me to my school's Spring Sing Concert. My class did so good singing " In the Jungle", we had been practicing a few weeks. I was also very excited and surpised to get "Teacher of the Year" award. I guess Brent knew about it for a while and kept it a complete secret ( I wish I could keep secrets like that)! They got me roses and a gift card to a spa, when I saw the name of the spa I was suprised because I had actually been there before ( there are probably a gazillion spas around Dallas). My secretary said that she knew I liked that place and I asked how she knew that and she explained she talked to Brent! So some day in the next couple months I might treat myself to the massage, facial, mani/pedi they do for expecting moms...I will probably wait till I am further along and swollen!!
Saturday we went to our pastor's house for a little get together while my parents watched Hattie and then on Sunday Brent had a brilliant idea for us to get chicken and have a picnic in the park. Hattie really enjoyed running around the park going down slides and climbing through tunnels. Speaking of climbing, I swear we have a little monkey. She climbs on EVERYTHING! We had to take our ottoman out of our living room because she was constantly climbing on top of it. And yesterday I took her out of her stroller after our walk, turned around, and saw her climb right back in it by herself. She is keeping her parents busy. And although she only says a few words, she can usually express to us exactly what she wants. This is leading to little "fits" when she doesn't get what she wants. I can't believe it can start this early!! Oh boy!!

by the way....12 days of school left!!

Harder Wedding in Puerto Rico!

I was so ready to get to Puerto Rico and see my best friend get married! We haven't been back to PR since we moved to Texas two years ago. My mom decided she would go with me since she was always so close to Jodi. We left very early Thursday morning. We flew to San Juan and spent a couple hours walking around Old San Juan shopping at all the neat vendors. Then we took a small puddle jumper to the island of Vieques, about 6 miles away from the big island. Thursday night we had a welcoming party at a local bar/restaurant. That first night was such a blast, I knew the rest of the trip was going to be just as much fun. On Friday we spent the day at the beach for rehearsal and a pig roast beach party. I was so good at smothering on the sunscreen that I didn't even get burned at all! Saturday us girls woke up early and drove all over looking for the black sand beach- Jodi needed black sand for her and Jason's sand ceremony. After asking a bunch of locals ( I had to use my spanish again) and walking on a dried out river bed for 30 minutes, we found the desolate beach. It was pretty neat! Then we went to a little town and shopped for a bit. When we got back to the villas we had lunch and got our hair done. Then it was time for the beach ceremony! Wow, was it ever a gorgeous wedding! The reception was back at the villas we were all staying called Casa de Claire. We had such a fun time dancing and celebrating the new couple. That night we went to the karaoke bar until closing at 2 and then we were all so hungry that we found the only place on the island that had food...it was an outdoor vendor selling pinchos and tostados. We ate on the curb....such a puerto rican thing to do. I loved it!
Sunday morning we woke up, packed, and chilled by the pool til we flew back to Texas. We didn't get home until about 1 and I was so anxious to see my baby. Daddy did a great job with his baby while I was gone. He was constantly sending me texts and videos of all the new things Hattie did while I was gone ( she learned to say night night and a few other new words). Everytime I talked to him they were shopping, at the park, or playing. Brent is such a wonderful daddy! This morning I just couldn't leave to work so early without seeing Hattie so I called in and asked if I could come in a few hours later. I was waiting for her to wake up this morning and when Hattie saw me she got so excited! Oh my gosh I don't ever want to leave her for four days again!
But boy was Puerto Rico fun. I swear Jodi and Sheila would tie for the most calm, laid back brides! And I was really impressed with Jason. This was the first time I met him. Jodi and Jason are such an adorable couple. I couldn't be happier for Jodi- she deserves all this happiness! Congrats!
