Spring Break and Hattie's 1st B-Day Party!

Today was our first day back at school and daycare after having an entire week off for Spring Break. Hattie, Brent, and I got used to staying up late and sleeping in, so it made today extra hard to get out of bed....but we did! Spring Break was exciting with both sets of grandparents in town, trips to the zoo, dinners, shopping....and a big birthday party! We had a very exciting week!
Hattie really enjoyed having the extra attention. She loved showing off for her grandparents. I think her favorites were playing peek with Grandpa John, building & destroying towers of blocks with Papa Rick, going to the zoo with Grandma Jean, and bouncing like a horsie on Nana Cathy's lap. We LOVE having family here, and hate it when they leave. We are looking forward to the day when grandparents will be closer!
On Saturday we had Hattie's birthday party. Although she will not be one until another 3 weeks, we figured it would be very special to have her first party with both sets of grandparents. Hattie's party was so much fun! I was a little nervous when guests started to show up and the guest of honor was still taking a nap ( we got all of schedule with the time change and spring break), but everyone just ate dinner first then by the time Hattie woke up she opened presents, ate cake, and played! And let me tell you, my little girl did not mess around when it came to eating her cupcake. Hattie picked the cupcake up and ate the entire thing! Hattie got way too many presents for a one year old : table and chairs, buggy, wagon, water table, 14 outfits, books, swimming pool, and lots of toys! We got lots of pictures despite me not having my camera and my back-up mom not having her camera charged. Between my friend Ruth Ann and Cathy we got plenty of pictures.

our trip to the zoo was a little exhausting. We picked the busiest day to go there and ended up spending a little more time in the car than we wanted. That traffic was awful. On the news it said places to avoid...the zoo ( too bad we didn't get that memo) We had fun though!

Only one picture!

Here it is...the only picture I have in about two weeks. Of course there is a reason...there is no way that wouldn happen without a good reason. Rain! The other night we were outside doing Hattie's very favorite thing....the swing! I took this picture, set my camera on the slide, and went inside. Problem: I never went back outside to get the camera and it rained all night. Luckily, I have insurance on my camera. I knew myself and knew insurance would be a good thing. Unfortunately it will take a little while for my camera to be fixed. The really bad thing is that it is at a horrible time. I will be without a camera for Hattie's birthday party. Good thing Grandma Jean is here and will have plenty of pictures. My parents have been here the last couple of days and Brent's parents will be here Thursday! We will be going to the Ft. Worth Zoo tomorrow and then on Saturday we will have Hattie's first birthday party! Yippy! We are so excited. I love having an entire week off for Spring Break. It is great, but I can already tell the time is going to go too fast! We have really been enjoying spending so much time with Hattie. She is hilarious. Her grandparents can't get enough of her and I think she is really enjoying the spotlight. She gets so silly when they play hide-n-seek with her. She starts squealing and laughing so hard. Tonight when my dad came over Hattie reached out for him and then layed her head on his shoulder for about 10 minutes. It was the sweetest thing! They are suprised at how much she has changed since January. She was just learning how to walk then and now she is cruising FAST! It is hard to keep up with her. She is also repeating a few small words. Her favorite is "no" she tells the dogs "no, no" and the other day at daycare she apparently told the other baby " no!" and the baby started crying. Alicia said it was pretty funny : ) Two of her molars are poking their way through this week, my dad jokes that Hattie really does want to eat steak on her birthday. I am beginning to think she could with 10 teeth! : )

First Big Bonk!

Since Hattie has been walking all over the place she has taken many falls. But the other night she had a really bad fall that took us to the Emergency Room. Poor thing! She was walking to the entertainment center when she tripped over a pillow. I could see it coming but was too late to stop it. I picked her up right away and then Brent came over and said that it was bad. Her head was bleeding so bad. We instantly went into "panic mode". We knew that she would need to go into the hospital. We quickly turned off the stove that our cooked dinner was on, put the dogs away, and packed her bag. I called our peditrician and she said we would have to go to the ER. I have never been to the ER and what a joke it is! Seriously! We walkedin with our baby bleeding from the head and they tell us there would be an hour wait. The room was full of people who looked fine. Hattie was just chilling at the time, she didn't cry the entire 20 minutes in the car either. It would have been so much worse if she would have been screaming. Finally, I called our dr.'s office again and said that we didn't want wait that long and asked if they could maybe do something if she didn't need stitches. They told us to bring her in ( we are so lucky our peditrician stays open until 10). Luckily the dr. saw her right away and told us she could use durabond ( kinda like a glue) that would be better than stitches. Thank goodness.
Brent and I felt so guilty that she got hurt so bad. Our parents made us feel better reminding us how many times things like that happened to us when we were young ( in my family most of the accidents involved Sara : )

Brent took a picture of her before she received care and it looks horrible. Here are some of her waiting in the dr. office for her glue to dry. What a long night...we finally got home around 9:30!
