I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend...we enjoyed nice weather, time with friends and family, and great food. We are so lucky to live in the country we do, thanks to all those we are serving or who have served our amazing country.
It's been a pretty crazy week, to say the least. We had pretty crazy, scary weather one night that put me and the girls in the closet for an hour ( more about that in a minute), I also got my very first speeding ticket; and it was a doozy ( school zone). But those things seem pretty small compared to what we have been seeing on the news about the tornadoes and even what my hometown is going through right now. Pierre has spent the last few days preparing for a flood to hit. See the Oahe Dam is getting so full with all the rain and snow melt that it is going to overflow the Missouri River that Pierre is located on. The people of the small community have really pulled together and spent days and nights sandbagging to try to protect the businesses and homes along the river. It is so sad to see all the pictures and see so many people have to leave their homes. I really hope it is not as bad as it is supposed to be. Such a sad situation. I wish I was closer to help!
Okay back to my little issues...
Speeding ticket: I was taking a different route home one afternoon when I apparently sped through a school zone. I was so suprised because it was almost 4:30 and I wasn't even thinking about a school zone. The officer wouldn't let me talk so I had no chance of talking my way out of this one. Looks like I will be spending about 6 hours taking a defensive driving course. FUN FUN FUN!! Well that whole incident made me late picking up the girls and by the time I got home I was rushing to prepare for our connect group we host on Wednesdays ( about 18 adults and 12 kids). Our a/c decided to go out that same day. Really? Luckily our neighbor came over and filled it up with frion ( that stuff isn't cheap!) and he did it for FREE! Wow...I told Brent that him doing that for free kinda voided the ol' speeding ticket...he told me nice try: )
On Tuesday night we were in a tornado watch. Too bad I didn't know that before Brent left for his school award banquet. I was so proud of myself for getting the girls baths and put to bed before 8. I was just about to start my cleaning when Brent called and said I should take the girls underneath the stairs. He said they were in lock down at his school to prepare for the tornado. Panic mode set in and I started throwing stuff out of the stairs. I ran and made a bottle and got snacks. I was just about to go upstairs when Hattie came down saying " Thunder get me...I'm scared" I woke up Hollyn who was pretty happy to be awake. We all went in the hot closet for about an hour. I did pretty good except when the sirens went off. My tv was out too! Luckily I could call my parents to help distract me. Brent came home after about an hour and I was so happy to see him. How crazy that happened on the ONE night he was gone!
Okay...on to a new week!! 3.5 days of school left! Y-A-Y!
